Stratford EMS Celebrates National EMS Week

EMS Week 2016 - CALLED TO CARE

EMS Week 2016 – CALLED TO CARE

STRATFORD – The American College of Emergency Physicians has designated May 15-21, 2016 as National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week. Their theme for 2015 is “Called to Care.”

Every day, EMS is called upon to help others through one of the most frightening times of their lives.  Every day, EMS is called upon to provide a sense of security and relief during chaotic and challenging situations.  Every day, EMS is called upon to do the work that only a select few can do.  Every day, EMS is “Called to Care”

The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) was instrumental in establishing EMS Week when President Gerald Ford declared November 3 – 10, 1974 as the first “National Emergency Medical Services Week.” This annual observance continued for four more years and was then reinstituted by ACEP in 1982. Around this time the observance of EMS Week was moved to September. In 1992 EMS Week was again moved to be the 3rd week in May.

Since it’s inception in 1977, Stratford EMS (SEMS) has been charged with providing high quality Emergency Medical Service to the residents of Stratford, 24/7/365.  SEMS achieves this mission through a combination of volunteer and paid caregivers.  All are highly trained, professional and accountable caregivers who have been continually exceeding standards for years. Many live in Stratford but ALL care about the residents and the Town of Stratford.

Although we can, and do recognize EMS staff year round, National EMS Week is a special time set aside to encourage recognition of the amazing and selfless work that is accomplished each day by your very own “Stratford EMS”.

Our Volunteer and Paid EMS providers work very hard providing EMS service to the Town of Stratford.  I am inspired every day by their professionalism and expertise. Their commitment to and passion for Stratford is always palpable.” said Director Michael Loiz.

National Emergency Medical Services Week runs from May 15-21, 2016.  In addition to being recognized internally, SEMS staff are being recognized this week by our local hospitals and the American Heart Association.  Stratford EMS will also host their annual OPEN HOUSE on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 9a-2p.
