STRATFORD, May 22, 2017 — Two Stratford EMS staff members were recognized today in an awards ceremony at the State Capital this morning.  Present for the awards were State Representatives Hoydick, Gresko and McGorty who presented General Assembly Citations introduced by themselves and Senators Gomes and Kelly.

Operations/QI Supervisor- Paramedic – Erin Smith:

Has been awarded the Distinguished Achievement Award: This award recognizes and commends individuals who have given of their time and talents to improve the level of pre-hospital care. The candidate’s contribution may be to any facet of pre-hospital care at the town, regional or state level, and may be for direct patient care or for active participation on committees, councils, organizations, or communications. Erin was recognized for her contributions in enhancing the EMS systems performance in Stratford.

Volunteer EMT – Helen “Bunnie” McQuilton:

Has been awarded the Gillooly – Lawton Award: For Exceptional Providers who consider EMS a vocation. The intent of this award is to recognize and commend an individual whose chosen career is Emergency Medical Services. This award is named for Carol Gillooly and William Lawton who were killed in the line of duty. Bunnie was recognized for her 30 years of volunteer EMS service to Stratford EMS and the Town of Stratford.

They were joined by other EMS award recipients from around the State. Yesterday started National EMS Week which runs through May 27.

Michael Loiz, Director of EMS said, “these awards are a testament to their professionalism, hard work and dedication but they are also representative of the professionalism and high performance of our organization as whole.  We are proud of all our members and are steadfast in our commitment to providing high quality EMS to the residents of Stratford.  Both Erin and Bunnie exemplify those characteristics and are deserving of this important recognition.”
