Stratford EMS is offering an initial EMR certification course. (previously known as: MRT/First Responder)

DESCRIPTION:

The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), formerly MRT (Medical Response Technician), course is designed for anyone interested in learning more about the emergency response system and in being a first responder.  The EMR is usually the first trained individual who arrives at the scene of an emergency.  The primary focus of an EMR is to initiate immediate lifesaving care to critical patients.  As an EMR, you will posses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS response.  You will also assist higher level providers on scene and during transport.

Topics covered include:

  • Respiratory emergencies
  • Cardiac problems
  • Strokes
  • Seizures
  • Trauma
  • Childbirth emergencies

The EMR initial certification program is for people who have never taken an EMR course before.

The EMR refresher program is for people who currently hold an EMR license that is set to expire or has expired within the past year.


COST:

  • EMS & Police Explorers and Stratford EMS EVO’s:  $200.00
  • Full time Stratford & Bunnell High School Students: $225.00 (students will also be eligible to receive .5 credit on their HS transcript upon successful completion of the course)
  • Stratford Resident: $275.00
  • Non-Resident: $350.00

Cost includes: tuition, books, CPR card and State testing fees

Parental consent required for youth students (16-18 yrs)
