Stratford EMS recognizes that our Team Members are our most important asset.  We are committed to their continual growth and success.

SEMS is part of Connecticut’s SW Region 1 EMS system.  The Town of Stratford’s EMS is a municipal, “third-service” department serving a community of over 52,000 residents with both BLS and ALS. level response, care & transport.   Seasonal populations can double due to our beautiful beaches and forest.  SEMS responds to over 7500+ 9-1-1 emergencies per year.  There are two major highways, 2 airports (fixed and rotor wing), 1 rail station, 1 SNF and 1 assisted living center.  40% of our population is over 55.  Our commercial and industrial areas also add complexity to our call volume.  We have two (2) trauma centers (including a burn center) within 5-8 minutes from our Town borders so calls move very fast.

SEMS has a Special Operations Team, Medical Bike unit, Field Training Officer program and Honor Guard.  SEMS provides Event Medical Standby coverage to over 30 special events per year throughout the community.

Safety is a foundational aspect of our approach:  All vehicles are >8 years old and are standardized –  AEV Sprinter and Type II ambulances, police interceptor Ford Explorers are all equipped with:

  • Apple iPAD Mobile Data Terminals and field documentation platforms
  • Stryker Powerload/PowerCot & Stair Chairs
  • Lucas devices
  • Ergonomic gear bags
  • Stryker LifePak 15 monitors & AED’s
  • Tactical Ballistic gear.

We use the Medical Priority Dispatch System for EMD and actively review and adjust response levels and modes regularly. We are a HEARTSafe workplace and issue P100 masks to all staff.  We offer the EMS Safety and Defensive Tactics for EMS certification course to all staff for Free and more. . .
