How Billing Works

Stratford EMS works with Digitech, a professional EMS billing company, to manage its billing. After your call, Digitech bills your insurance carrier for the care and transport we provided, including Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance and any secondary or supplemental plans. Our rates follow the maximum allowable rates set by the State of Connecticut.

Stratford EMS is a Town of Stratford enterprise fund. That means it runs on insurance payments for the services it provides, which helps limit the cost to local taxpayers.

What You May Owe

Effective May 13, 2026, the Town of Stratford updated its EMS billing ordinance. Here is what that means for patients:

  • Residents: Residents who are financially able may be responsible for copayments, deductibles or coinsurance that insurance does not pay.
  • Health savings accounts: You may use a health savings account (HSA) to pay these amounts.
  • Protections remain in place: Protections continue for elderly residents and for anyone who qualifies for hardship consideration.

Financial Hardship

No one should hesitate to call 911 because of cost. If paying your bill would cause a financial hardship, please contact us. We will explain the hardship process, the information needed to apply and the payment options available to you.
