Event Medical Standby

Stratford EMS supports community events throughout the year with ambulance standby coverage, public education and ambulance tours. You’ll find us at Stratford Day, the Independence Day Fireworks, the Memorial Day Parade, the MADD Dash and many other community events. We also provide EMS coverage for Pop Warner and high school football and other sporting events.

Depending on the size and type of event, coverage may include one or more ambulances, our Special Operations Division (SOD), our Medical Bike Unit (MBU) and members of our Explorer Post.

Events That May Need EMS Standby

• Mass gatherings: events expected to draw 1,000 or more people.

• Extended mass gatherings: under Connecticut law, an event expected to last 12 or more hours with an average of 2,000 or more people needs a license from the Town. The application must include a written emergency medical services plan, prepared with the area’s primary EMS provider. In Stratford, that provider is Stratford EMS.cga.ct

• High school and youth sports: Some games where an athletic trainer isn’t available, contact sports such as football, and tournaments. For football playoff games, the state’s high school athletic conference requires an ambulance on site.content.ciacsports

• Road races, walks and parades: events that close roads or spread participants over a long route.

• High-risk activities: fireworks displays, live fire training, festivals with alcohol and outdoor events in extreme heat or cold.

Requesting Coverage

If you’re an event organizer, please contact us early in your planning so we can assess your event and its staffing needs. Some events are charged a fee based on the cost of staffing the ambulance and crew.
