Stratford EMS has announced the acquisition of their second remounted ambulance from American Emergency Vehicles (AEV).

Vehicle 803 was the first remounted ambulance and was completed in March.  Vehicle 805 was picked up by AEV in early May to start the remount process which has taken about three and a half months to complete.

While Stratford EMS continues to update and maintain it’s fleet of ambulances, SEMS chose the “vehicle remount” option in order to save money while maximizing patient and crew comfort and safety. A “stock” type III ambulance to replace 805 would have cost around $170,000. While the “remount” costs $117,000. SEMS was able to customize much of the patient compartment for safety, comfort and convenience.

The remount process uses an ambulances existing patient compartment area and “remounts” it onto a new chassis.  The vehicle itself is brand new and the patient area is refurbished to a “like new” condition and is customized during that process.

The SEMS Vehicle Selection Committee made specific modifications to the patient area of the ambulance to address issues that were felt to be safety, comfort and practical convenience concerns. They also changed the aesthetic look of the ambulance to reflect the organizations updated image.

The new vehicle arrived at EMS headquarters on 8/27/13 and was immediately sent for radio’s and the installation of the new MDT. The vehicle was then stocked with all of the essential equipment needed for emergency response. The vehicle will be inspected by the States Office of Emergency Medical Services and the DMV on 9/4/13 and will be put into service immediately after.

Michael Loiz, Director of EMS said, “Stratford EMS continues to progress, update and enhance its capabilities to serve the residents of Stratford. By choosing to remount one of our older, more seasoned vehicles, we were able to update our fleet while saving money in the process.  We are proud to announce the receipt of this new vehicle for the town.”
