3 Stratford EMS staff Honored by St. Vincent’s Medical Center

STRATFORD, CT – 3 Stratford EMS providers were recognized in a beautiful ceremony put on by St. Vincent’s Medical Center (Hartford Healthcare) as part of their Annual EMS Values Recognition Awards.

Paramedic Bronson and EMT’s Edler’s recognition was in response to going above and beyond for a patient who was thought to be having a stroke but was actually suffering an Aortic Aneurysm. The patient was not presenting in a usual way for the call and the crews teamwork, focussed assessment, quick thinking and compassionate care led to the patient ultimately surviving this critical of emergencies emergency.  Mortality rates in the US, for this kind of emergency are between 30 and 70%, even after an aneurysm is repaired.

Full Time Paramedic Louis Bronson, Full Time Paramedic Elizabeth Robinson and EMT Michelle Edler were honored with the St. Vincent’s Medical Center’s “EMS Values Recognition Awards – recognizing those who go above and beyond”. The awards are given to EMS workers for exhibiting the St Vincent’s EMS core values of integrity, compassion, accountability, respect, and empathy while providing patient focused and selfless service.

(Paramedic Robinson)

Full Time Paramedic Robinsons’ recognition was for her continually high level of professionalism especially in light of various impediments and / or attempts to interrupt her care by people outside the EMS Care team.  Paramedic Robinson maintains composure, professionalism, collaboration and a positive attitude and it has been noticed by providers and most importantly, her patients.

“I am always proud of our staff here at Stratford EMS.  They continue to perform with professionalism and poise regardless of how tough the work can be.  They truly are valued members of our Stratford family and are well deserving of this important recognition” said Michael Loiz, Director of EMS.

“Stratford EMS has shown, once again into the 3rd year of the pandemic, a professionalism, efficiency and effectiveness that is unmatched in the region.  They are constantly doing more with less and provide a very high level of support and comfort to the citizens of Stratford.  I once again applaud SENS for all they do” said Larry Ciccarelli, Public Safety Director/EMD.

“I want to join in congratulating Paramedics Bronson, Robinson, and EMT Edler for their outstanding performance and the recognition they have been given by St. Vincent’s Medical Center,” said Mayor Laura R. Hoydick.  “Our full-time, Per Diem and volunteer EMS professionals always go above and beyond and their exemplary work under extreme conditions and pressure is a credit to the great team we have at Stratford EMS.  We thank them for their work as part of our Stratford family!”

The ceremony was held at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport at 4:30p on May 10, 2022.
