Times: Evenings 6:30p-9:30p (Saturdays 09:00-15:00)

Cost: $1300.00 ($500.00 non-refundable deposit required)

Note: This course is over 165 hours of live (In-person) lecture / classroom time with hands-on practicals in order to prepare the student for examinations for State of Connecticut and perform the duties of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).  Will also include 12 hours of clinical observation time.

Stratford EMS Training and Education Center (SEMSTEC) is proud to offer it’s upcoming “Workforce Preparedness & Readiness” 165 hour Spring EMT Certification Program.  This course immerses the learner into prehospital emergency care immediately.  Our class will begin ambulance ride time / field internship within the first 3 weeks!  This course includes Basic Life Support CPR, patient assessment, safe lifting, workforce readiness and development strategies, and the following certifications and trainings:
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700, 800
  • De-escalation Strategies for EMS Clinicians
  • CEVO IV Classroom Portion
  • Vehicle Extrication workshop
  • Question Persuade Refer Gatekeeper / First Responder Mental Health Awareness Training
  • Human Trafficking Awareness for EMS
  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy for EMS
  • Bloodborne Pathogen Training
  • STOP THE BLEED® training
This course prepares candidate EMT’s for credentialing and actual EMS work in the field:  Successful completion of this course will enable the student to test for National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certification as an Emergency Medical Technician and receive their Connecticut state EMT certification.  EMT’s may staff ambulances, work in hospitals, and know what to do in the event of a medical emergency.  Course will include classroom lecture and hands-on practical skills assessments in order to prepare the student for examinations for State and National certification and to perform the duties of an Emergency Medical Technician.  It is important to note that this course is very difficult.  Time management skills with both personal accountability and responsibility will be extremely important for success.  There is college level reading, there will be quizzes, tests, and writing assignments along the way throughout class.  There will be collaborations and presentations.  Students are expected to be in proper uniform each day of class and while doing ambulance ride time.  Students are expected to come to class prepared having read the chapters in their text and completed any assigned homework prior to the lecture.  Students will be treated with dignity and respect at all times and similarly to as if they are already working in the field.  Students will be held accountable to the workload and rules of the course.  Tardiness and “Time off” from class are all considered as part of the class grade and will not be tolerated.  ***THIS IS NOT AN EASY CLASS***

The cost for this course is $1300.00 and includes: Online textbook access, stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, penlight, scissors, and more!

What does the student need (not provided):

  • Light Blue polo shirt
  • Uniform pants, navy blue (Cargo pants, Straight leg pants, or EMS pants)
  • Black rubber sole boots
  • black belt

Students are expected to be in uniform, bring their books, and equipment to all classes and clinical observations.

Financial Aid

SEMSTEC does not currently offer financial aid through Sallie Mae or other traditional student aid lenders. We accept the GI Bill, cash, Purchase Orders from a municipality, personal checks and bank checks.

SEMSTEC will allow a payment plan on a case-by-case basis and it is up to the student to pursue this with SEMSTEC directly.  This can be done after registration occurs and usually involved coordination with the Course Manager.  The student should be prepared to explain their financial hardship in detail for SEMSTEC to consider.

Hunters Ambulance Memorial Scholarship

The Hunter’s Scholarship Fund in memory of Bill Lawton and Carol Gillooly has been established in memory of William R. Lawton of Killingworth, Connecticut and Carol A. Gillooly of Middlefield, Connecticut, who lost their lives in the line of duty as Emergency Medical Technicians when struck by a drunk driver on September 2, 1989.

The Memorial Fund has been established for the purposes of providing educational programs, training programs, and financial awards for educational related expense to individuals pursuing or furthering their education or training in the fields of emergency medical services, healthcare, and related fields in their communities, including but not limited to physicians, physician’s assistants, nurses, certified nursing assistants, and police and fire personnel.
